Mt.Titlis from Lucerne
We have all heard about Mt.Titlis in the Alps in Switzerland and wondered about how scenic and beautiful it is. I went to Titlis this summer of 2017 and found it serenely beautiful and peaceful . Riding on Rotair which is a rotating gondola promises a lifetime experience and is worth the effort and the cost. Standing at a height of 10000 ft, it feels as top of the world. The top is snow covered all time of the year and summers is the best time to be there. May, June and July are sunny and have less rains and wind. At the Top there are many other fun filled activities which one can do and are all inclusive in the cost of the ticket. The major activities include the Cliff walk and ice flyer.
We walked on the suspension bridge which is called the cliff walk, the bridge was moving with the wind and i could hear my heart beat. It was an adventurous walk on the bridge and on seeing underneath the bridge I could hear my heart beat louder. Holding hands with my partner I somehow crossed the bridge. Now i felt great! On reaching Titlis one must do the cliff walk and ride on the ice flyer. The ice flyer gives you goosebumps but is an exciting journey down one station from the top. So do not miss that too. At the entrance there is a poster of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol so do not forget to get clicked in front of the super stars. If you have seen the bollywood movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, you are surely bound to get nostalgic and get reminded of the movie and its scenes in the lanes of Switzerland and songs in the snowy mountains.
If you feel hungry there are plenty of restaurants including Indian restaurants on the lower floors. Food is not an issue at Titlis. Italian cuisine , Chinese cuisine , English cuisine and Indian cuisine all available in the restaurant. You can also find watch stores, chocolate stores and cute souvenir shops around. So if you have explored all activities outside you can explore these stores inside.
The ticket for Rotair both ways costs 92 Chf . But in case you have a swiss travel pass the cost goes down by a half. So i advise you that if your stay in Switzerland is for more than two days do buy the Swiss travel pass which enables you to travel unlimited in entire Switzerland for the nuuber of days you purchased the pass for. Depending upon your requirement you must purchase the pass for 3days , 4 days or whatever is your requirement. Having a swiss travel pass gives lot of benefits, firstly it promises an unlimited travel across Switzerland, secondly many tourist spots can be entered for free or for reduced prices. The list of these spots would be there with the booklet handed over to you at the time buying your tickets in the station. Once you enter Switzerland for e.g. Lucerne there is a tourist assistance office where you can by these tickets from. You need to provide them your valid ID proofs mostly which is your passport. You can only buy the swiss travel pass if you are not a Switzerland resident.
From Lucerne you can reach Titlis very easily. Take a train from Lucerne to Engelberg which you would reach in an hour approximately. From Engelberg station just follow the board and walk towards Rotair station where the journey originates. It is advisable to buy tickets to Titlis in the station where you purchase your swiss travel pass. It would save you some time. Once you enter the station you get aboard the gondola and it is an exciting journey indeed. It is all glass and you can see every bit of scenery. You can see the gondola climbing upwards and the world is beneath your feet. Plush greenery, blue lake and cow bells ringing is what you get to see and hear once you are on board the gondola. I had not seen such a beauty before.
